October is a great month to explore Wells and the North Norfolk Coast by bike, as it’s cooler than high summer, so you don’t get too hot and sweaty.
Did you know there is a 3,750-mile route that travels the coastal areas of all countries that border the North Sea, it passes through Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Holland and of course Norfolk. Not ideal for a short break in Wells! But an indicator of the great cycling available.
There is also a new Norfolk cycle route, just developed, called Rebellion Way: https://www.cyclinguk.org/press-release/new-long-distance-cycling-route-norfolk-announced
One of our favourite routes is what we call the ‘Holkham Loop’, it’s easily accessible from the Mousetrap and mainly off road, apart from a few quiet lanes before entering Holkham Hall. The route takes you through the fields behind the Mousetrap, through the grounds of Holkham Hall, returning via tracks running parallel with the beach. We’re happy to supply directions – just email us.
A stay at the Mousetrap is a great way to explore the cycling opportunities – the rear courtyard garden provides secure space to leave the bikes at night and there is side access so there’s no need to cart bikes through the house. Bring your own bikes, or hire from one of several companies in and around Wells, such as ‘On Yer Bike Cycle Hire’.
Mousetrap is a spacious family friendly holiday home with 3 bedrooms, sleeping 6, free car parking and free wi-fi.
